Subject: Annual Report of President, Medina Water Supply Corporation Board of Directors
I am pleased to announce the following achievements of your MWSC Board during the past year. These actions include the following:
1. The Finch storage tanks were modified with Safety upgrades to meet OSHA safety standards.
2. Completed critical structural roof repairs to the Stringtown storage tank.
3. Completed a hydrological study to determine a useable water pressure model required for future upgrades and system improvements.
4. Continued the process to pursue a Texas Department of Agriculture and Texas Water Development Board grant and loan funding opportunities for a number of repair and upgrade projects.
5. Completed a Customer Economic Survey that placed Medina in an economically distressed category giving us a higher priority for government loans and grants.
6. Completed a TCEQ Compliance Inspection with only 3 minor discrepancies noted, all of which were corrected within 60 days.
7. Secured a 5,000 gallon pressure tank for the Springtown Plant which provides a significant increase in the number of customers we can support.
8. Secured state sales tax exemption for the MWSC.
9. Completed the Federally mandated Lead Copper Service Line inventory.
10. Completed the installation of emergency generators at both well sites.
11. Purchased a service truck to be utilized for MWSC maintenance and system operations.
12. Extended the MWSC office hours allowing it to be open Mon-Fri to support increased administrative requirements and to allow more customer access and support.
Future plans include new water meters, maintenance of the Finch water tower, and most notably, the acquisition and installation a Pressure Reducing Valve allowing us to merge the Finch and Stringtown systems into one that can provide water from either well site.
I wish to extend my thanks and appreciation to the Board of Directors who volunteer their time to help guide the Corporation, oversee operations, and provide invaluable advice on how to improve services to our members.
I also would like to commend our Office Manager, Kevin Ayers, for his outstanding professionalism and attention to details in the daily administration of Corporation operations. Kevin is proactive and provides excellent recommendations for Board considerations as well as keeping track of reporting requirements.
I would like to commend our Field Operations Manager, Emerson Arnold, for his hard work conducting inspections, light maintenance and field repairs, and for promptly coordinating emergency repairs by our support contractors.
Finally, I would like to acknowledge the many contributions of departing Board Member and Vice President, Harvey Young. Harvey tackled our most difficult problems and his experience in the Safety field was invaluable in the improvement of our water system. Harvey was especially helpful in formulating the Corporation’s plans for future system improvements as well as our efforts to secure outside funding.
