Letter from the Board
October 13, 2021
To the Members of the Medina Water Corporation:
I am pleased to provide you with a monthly update of the actions by your Board to ensure the quality and availability of a safe water supply for your family. The monthly Board meeting was conducted on 11 Oct. Among the items for discussions was our continuing planning goals for needed repairs and improvements to the Medina water system. Repairs of a significant leak at the Finch Plant were completed and we expect a much improved report for water loss rates at our next meeting. The water tower at the Finch Plant needs maintenance which is being addressed in our grant request under development. The Stringtown Plant is nearing its expected lifecycle for the storage tank and the pressure tank is undersized. Both are being addressed in our grant request as well. We are in talks with the Bandera Utilities and City Administrator offices for possible acquisition of a much larger pressure tank.
We have received a letter from the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality (TCEQ) requiring us to develop an Emergency Preparedness Plan no later than 1 March 2022. Basically, this requires us to develop an ability to continue operations in the event of a commercial power outage. Simply put, we will need generators to run the water plants during times of commercial power interruptions such as during the extreme cold we experienced this past winter. Again, we are hoping infrastructure money will be available from various grants.
By now, some of you may be aware that we have a Medina Water Corporation website. This website makes it convenient to keep you informed. However, the most important function is to keep you advised of any events that affect your water supply. And this is where we need your help. Previously, notifications were made by phone requiring our Office Manager to call each customer. This was time consuming and a time delay in keeping our members advised. Our new website has a built in feature to solve this problem and keep you better informed. Please visit our website and sign up for alerts. You may enter your phone number and email address and you will receive notifications of water issues affecting your area.

You will also find much more information about your Water Corporation as well as frequently asked questions. One of our recent questions was about paying your water bill online. The Board has researched and considered this issue. While it would be convenient, the fees involved to set it up and run it through our bank, more fees, did not make it financially viable for such a small membership. Every member's rate would go up for only a few to use it. Most banks offer you the opportunity to use their "Bill Pay" system to pay your bill online and we encourage you to use that method.
As a reminder, your MWSC Board meeting is the second Monday of each month, 6pm, at the Medina Library. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
