Medina Water Supply Members,
On May 9, 2022, the Board of Directors voted to raise the base rate for water service. On the service period beginning July 21, 2022, the monthly base rate will increase $5 to $35 and the included water will decrease from 3,000 gallons per service period to 2,000 gallons per service period (21th to the 20th). For water use over 2,000 gallons, the rate of $1.00 per 100 gallons or part of 100 gallons remains the same. The Board also voted to increase the base rate an additional $5 each year for the next 4 years (July 2023 - $40, July 2024 - $45, July 2025 - $50, July 2026 - $55).
The current water rate (effective May 2018) is:
$30 base rate that includes the first 3000 gallons.
From 3001 gallons and up is billed at $1 for each 100 gallons or part of 100 gallons.
Beginning July 21, 2022 service period, the new water rate will be:
$35 base rate that includes the first 2,000 gallons.
From 2001 gallons and up - $1 for each 100 gallons or part of 100 gallons.
The Board of Directors regrets raising the rate but additional costs force this increase. The Medina Water Supply has no debt but the cost of recent repairs and inflation costs have cut into the financial reserves which need to be replenished.
Your Board of Directors has been working hard to obtain grants to reduce the need for even higher rate increases. The Bandera County Commissioners Court recently granted funds from the American Rescue Plan Act to the Medina Water Supply Corp. up to $107, 000 to pay for recently State mandated back up generators for each of the production plants. The Board continues to look and apply for grants from various sources for expensive repairs and needed upgrades.
We are under EXTREME drought restrictions (stage 4) 10-10-13-Drought-Management-Plan.pdf (bcragd.org). Please conserve and follow the guidelines.
If you think you have a leak on your side of the water meter, turn off all the water faucets in and around your house then look at the water meter for your home. If the red triangle is moving, there is water moving through the meter, indicating a leak.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact Office manager, Kevin Ayers, at (830) 589-7689.
The next Board of Directors meeting is scheduled for 6pm on 6/13/2022 at the Medina Community Library, Rodney Camp Pavilion.
