Message from the Board

Medina Water Supply Customers-
Speaking for your Board of Directors, I want to extend Season's Greetings to all of our members. This past year has seen a number of initiatives designed to improve and plan for upgrades to the Medina water system. We secured funding for backup generators to both of our well sites. These are on order and we expect to install the first one very soon. Having backup generators will ensure your water system continues to operate in the event of an area wide electricity blackout. We are currently in negotiations with a potential engineering project partner. They will help guide us through engineering and funding hurdles for much needed improvements to our system. Some of our future projects include a complete hydrological survey to identify needed repairs, upgrades to the Stringtown Plant pressure tank, repairs and maintenance of the Finch water tower, and upgrades to water meters. Our current production capability is near maximum for the number of customers we service. Therefore, we are starting the planning process for a third well site. Such a project requires several years to acquire funding, complete engineering, and selection and acquisition of a suitable well site.
As you know, water is a precious commodity these days because of the continuing drought. Please continue to help us through conservation practices. For our part, the Board has aggressively pursued any issues affecting our water loss rate. I am happy to report that your MWSC has significantly reduced water loss and has some of the lowest loss rates in Texas. Diligent reporting of leaks by our members and the outstanding work of our Field Maintenance Operator, Michael Sowders, has helped greatly. Michael has also worked hard this year to resolve deferred maintenance issues and to bring our system into compliance. We also want to acknowledge the superb contribution of our Office Manager, Kevin Ayers. Kevin not only handles the billing but coordinates with third party provider, researches Board inquiries, and basically handles everything nobody else wants to do. Outstanding work by both gentlemen.
Finally, I would like to acknowledge the expertise and guidance of a hard working team of Board members who volunteer their time and effort to support the Medina community and its vital water system. Many thanks to VP Harvey Young, Janet Miller (Treasurer), Bob Buck (Secretary), and members Rick Randall, David Reed, and Roger Mora.
We wish you a very Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year.
Daniel Poston
President, MWSC Board of Directors
